Djordje Balasevic, a Novi Sad resident who wanted to be a soccer player, began writing verses in elementary school.

He finished high school in an extraordinary way, because he raised his hand from regular education due to mathematics, physics and chemistry.

Balasevic acted in several series, and also made the movie “Early Frost”, starring, among others, his sons and his great friend Rade Serbedzija. Djordje Balasevic, was born on May 11, 1953. He was part of the groups “Harvest” and “Early Frost”, and in 1982 he began his solo career.

He has released a total of 14 albums. He enrolled but did not graduate in geography. However, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the University of Novi Sad, he received an honorary degree.

“It is not always easy when you are in front of famous people, at home. Those who do not love you do not know how to hide it, and those who love you do not know how to show it,” said Djordje Balasevic at the beginning of his concert, which he performed in Novi Sad 2012.

During his career, Balasevic was followed by many disputes. Many resented him for recording the song “Count on us”, for him to say in his defense: “I wrote that song 30 years ago. If I had killed Tito, they would have released me from jail.”

Balasevic was known as a great critic of the Milosevic regime, and while the country was under sanctions, he took Slovenian citizenship. He was also a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. After 2000, he did not publicly expose himself to politics until 2008, when he participated in Boris Tadic’s election campaign.
