The news about the death of Branimir Šćepanović was posted on social media by writer and editor Zoran Živković, according to Večernje novosti.

Šćepanović was born in 1937 in Podgorica, and among his most famous works is the novel “Mouth full of earth”, published in 10 Serbian editions and 27 foreign editions, and translated into the main languages of the world, while in French it had up to 23 editions.

The novel “The Death of Mr. Goluža” entered several world anthologies and, in 2008, Nolit published the selected works of Branimir Šćepanović.

Šćepanović’s stories were printed as books in French, Greek, Hungarian, Slovenian, and Bulgarian, and individually, in newspapers and magazines, and in many other languages.

Eighteen anthologies have been included in our country and abroad.

Šćepanović published three novels: “Mouth Full of Earth”, “Shameful Summer” and “Redemption”, short stories “Srmt gospodina Goluže” and “Pre istine”, and six feature films were made based on his scripts.

It also won two Golden Sands per screenplay at the Pula Film Festival (1963 and 1973).

Večernje novosti reported on his website the last interview that Šćepanović gave to that newspaper, when he warned that vulgarity, pop music and superficiality triumph over marginalized culture.

“Culture, literature and serious art are marginalized, because vulgarity, variety and superficiality prevail. I’m no longer in the years where I can expect promotions and celebrations. At my age, and those are serious years, everything becomes less interesting and less important, there is little that can make a person happy, “he told Šćepanov in his last interview with Večernji novosti.
