Strahinja Stojanović (30), who was blown up the day before yesterday by a bomb planted under his BMW jeep in New Belgrade, probably had no idea that the killers were on his heels.
He was not wearing a bulletproof vest, his jeep was not armored and his girlfriend from Colombia, Sonja Suárez Gómez (45), used to post on social media where they were going and where they were traveling, so it was easy to follow them.
A source from the investigation claims that a highly destructive plastic explosive was placed under Strahinja’s jeep.
– Most likely it was activated remotely, which means the killer was nearby. The explosive was placed very professionally and the blast targeted only the driver’s seat, where Stojanović was. That is why his girlfriend from Colombia, who was in the passenger seat, only suffered minor injuries. Parts of the explosives were sent to experts to possibly find biological traces of the killer, the source explained.
Security experts are convinced that Stojanovic was killed out of revenge, in the war between the criminal clans at war in Serbia and the region. The liquidation for explosives was carried out by a highly trained professional, who probably comes from the ranks of special units of the army or police of some country in the region.
Boza Spasic, a former State Security agent, believes that Stojanovic was too relaxed and convinced that he was untouchable.
– Strahinja and all the other “serious” criminals live in a world of their own, which ordinary people cannot understand. However, I think all gangsters of his caliber should be careful, especially since Stojanović once, by sheer luck, avoided liquidation with explosives last year; Spasić thinks and adds:
– In my opinion, even if Strahinja were more careful, nothing would help him, because when the mafia decides to liquidate someone, it is only a matter of time before they do. For this liquidation, an expert was hired, who installed such a device so that the explosion was directed and there was no collateral damage. It is known in the underworld that the best explosives experts in this area are former officers of the Republika Srpska special forces, but these people are older, so it is more likely that one of their students did. The pump could have been imported, that is, made in Serbia or, say, Bulgaria, and it was only brought to Belgrade and placed. A murder like this is expensive, but also very effective.
Spasic is convinced that Strahinja’s murder was ordered by a criminal clan from Montenegro and that it was a blood revenge.
Explosives experience remains
The expertise of the explosive remnants, as well as the jeep, is ongoing. The police, in search of evidence, took camera images of several facilities near the place of the liquidation. Inspectors are trying to determine if the executors followed the young man and set off the explosive from the car, or if it was someone walking or standing at a nearby bus station. Strahinja Stojanović will be buried tomorrow at the New Bežanija Cemetery in Belgrade.
