The Belgrade High Court extended the detention for another 30 days for former footballer Nikola Malbashi on suspicion that he stabbed Igor Neskovic with a knife on July 8, who suffered serious life-threatening bodily injuries.
His detention was prolonged because of the danger of fleeing, so as not to affect the injured party Nešković, as well as so that he does not repeat or complete the crime, judicial spokeswoman Tatjana Tešić specified for Tanjug.
According to this decision, his detention can last until October 17, after which the court will reconsider the reasons for the delay.
Malbashi is charged with attempted murder.
He denied the crime at the hearing at the prosecutor’s office in late July.
As announced at the time by the Prosecutor’s Office, the former soccer player is suspected of intentionally trying to take the life of the person injured in his car, when he inflicted several serious bodily injuries on July 8 with a knife.
The former soccer player was on the run for about ten days, before being arrested.
