Davorin Darko Ribnikar, a retired journalist and grandson of Vladislav Ribnikar, founder of the daily Politika, was buried in the New Belgrade Cemetery on Friday, said Darko Ribnikar’s family and wife, Ljiljana.

“His farewell was made in the circle of his closest family and several friends, at his request without a spoken word, only with some songs that he and his wife Ljiljana adored,” the announcement states.

Darko Ribnikar was born on March 5, 1939 in Belgrade, where he finished primary school and the Tenth Joint Gymnasium in Topčiderski brdo. He graduated from BU Law School, before the deadline, and additionally also has a degree from Princeton University for International Relations “Woodrow Wilson”.

He got a job at Politika at the age of 23 and spent a full 45 years at it. He began his journalistic career in the national and Belgrade section, then joined the veteran company of Politika correspondents from abroad, Miroslav Radojčić, Aleksandar Nenadović, Đuka Julijus and others.

He was the only one of the five Ribniks who worked at Politika, who was its editor-in-chief and director at the same time. During her tenure, Politika began to come out in color and marked her centenary.

Darko Ribnikar is the only editor-in-chief and director of Politika, which is unique among reputable newspapers that will be fired for dismissal after 45 years in that house, without severance pay, the ad claims.

Davorin Darko Ribnikar is one of the few in Politika to win three of his awards. He also won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Festival of Reporting and Media, the Order of Merit for People with a Silver Star, and the Order of the President of Romania, which was awarded to him in 2003.

“Darko Ribnikar has been suing Politika and the editors of Politika Novine i Magazini for more than 13 years for violating the moral rights of authors because Politika changed the direction of the newspaper, contrary to the agreement signed on March 12, 1997 with the descendants of Vladislav Ribnikar. And removed the names of the founders and directors from the Ribnikar family list on the cover. Ribnikar won this dispute. In November 2020, the Supreme Court of Cassation of Serbia, with its decision, definitively rejected all attempts to Politika to avoid the execution of this verdict, which Darko Ribnikar discovered only days before his sudden death, “the statement added.

Politika has not yet done so, and Darko Ribnikar’s dying wish that no one from the Politika newspaper attend his farewell, despite the efforts of his wife and family, is not fulfilled.

“Darko Ribnikar left behind three grandchildren and two children: the famous surgeon Vladislav and the doctor of science who defended his first doctorate on the 1999 bombing of Yugoslavia at the Sorbonne, which was published in Serbia and Serbia last year, and Darko, who lives in Paris, “concludes the statement.
