Srbijagas director Dušan Bajatović said tonight, as a guest on Serbian Radio and Television, that today 140,000 cubic meters of gas from Bulgaria were released into the new gas pipeline and that all systems were working.
“Until yesterday, we tested the systems, and today we released the first quantities of the interconnector,” Bajatović said, explaining that it was part of Serbia’s internal transportation system, which is owned by a company established under Serbian law.
“It is part of our internal transportation system. We will get gas from that source, and that is a kind of diversification.” Today we inject about 140,000 cubic meters of gas into the system and now we know that everything works, “Bajatović said.
According to him, the gas now comes from Russia and, in the future, it could be from another country.
“Serbia will certainly maintain a strategic partnership in that area with Russia.” We did it in silence, under great pressure and under the threat of sanctions. We had to. In my opinion, this is a great victory for Serbia and a great victory for the president and his national, economic and foreign policy, “Bajatović said.
The construction of the Balkan Stream gas pipeline, which is in fact a continuation of the Turkish Stream, will allow lower gas prices and, furthermore, Serbia has become a transit country for the first time, bringing it additional revenue.
“As of January 1, the price of gas on the Bulgarian border will be around 150 dollars, and now it is 240. From 60 to 90 dollars, gas will be cheaper for our consumers in the first two quarters of next year, and we will also save on transportation, “Bajatovic announced.
The length of the main gas pipeline through Serbia is 403 kilometers from the Bulgarian border to the Hungarian. 13.88 billion cubic meters of gas will enter our country, and there will be as much as we need to supply the economy and the population.
