Slavica Stepanenko, director of the Bora Stanković Library in Vranje and professor of literature, passed away yesterday in Belgrade at the age of 73. He finished primary and secondary school in Vranje, and the Faculty of Philosophy, in the World Literature group, in Belgrade.
At the beginning of his fruitful career, he worked as a journalist at Vranjske novine. She spent the longest period at the Bora Stanković Public Library, where she was director for more than a quarter of a century.
At one time, she also served as the secretary of culture for Vranje SIZ. Thanks to their commitment and work, the Vranje library received the “Milorad Panić Surep” award in 1993, for exceptional results for the development of library science in the district. Three years later, in 1996, Slavica Stepanenko personally received the same award.
He is also the holder of the “Premio Siete de Septiembre” of the municipality and the city in 1974 and 2000.
In Vranje, she will be remembered as a lover of literature and undisputed leader in the culture of the city.
Slavica Stepanenko’s funeral will be held on Saturday, November 14 at the Shapranac Cemetery in Vranje.
