According to experts, the boiler usually explodes due to a malfunction. In addition, it is indicated that in case of uncontrolled heating of the water, which can be recognized by the hum and boiling of the water, which is heard from the boiler, the first thing to do is cut off the power supply, if you see a temperature too high on the thermometer, provided that y is accurate.
Experts, on the other hand, advise that always, regardless of whether the grounding is good or not, turn off the boiler before entering the bathtub!
In the words of the plumber Tomo Dimić, the main danger in the bathroom is the old facilities.
“They are usually installations where the ground connection is very poor. When the boiler heater burns out, that is, when everything around it melts, the wire that heats the water remains inside. In older installations, when the heater “breaks,” the boiler energizes and the switch cannot “trip,” explains this plumber.
When the switch doesn’t do its part of the work, according to Tomo Dimić, the only conductor of electricity is exactly the man in the bathtub at the time.
“Then the electricity is transmitted through the water and the electricity is distributed throughout the body, and not just in some parts of the body,” says plumber Dimić.
In addition to electric shock, the danger when it comes to the boiler, there is also an explosion.
The boiler can also explode
Regarding the defense against the boiler explosion, Dimić explains that there are protective factors to prevent that from happening.
“There is a safety thermostat in the boiler that regulates the temperature in the boiler, that is, when the water in the boiler heats up, that thermostat turns off the boiler. In addition, there is a safety valve in the boiler which, if defective, cannot let the steam pass. When the boiler is full of steam, there is pressure and then the boiler explodes like a bomb, “says Dimić, emphasizing that they had a case where the boiler explosion broke the bathroom walls in an apartment in New Belgrade.
In addition to water heaters, tragedy can also occur when there is a short circuit between the heater and the water heater if they are turned on during a shower.
“The boiler cannot kill you when it is off, because then the electricity does not reach the heater and there is no fear that it will explode,” says electrician Nedjo Janjic.
An electric shock occurs if a poorly grounded boiler is turned on during a bath.
