In a few days, more precisely on December 30, the sale of “Komercijalna banka” to the Slovenian bank NLB will be completed. € 395 million will be credited to the Serbian account, and the bank, as announced, will change its name to “NLB Komercijalna banka”.

Komercijalna banka was founded 50 years ago and has been known for decades as the bank with the largest number of customers and the highest savings. Works in Serbia, Montenegro and the Republika Srpska. And in total, according to the latest information, there are almost 2 million accounts and a little over 900,000 clients!

So far, the state has been its largest shareholder with more than 40% of the shares. Now, he has sold around 83% of the bank’s shares to a Slovenian investor and there have been changes since the new year: new people are coming to the bank’s management with a new strategy and plans. They were already named in the session of December 11 of this year.

And what will happen to your accounts at Komercijalna banka. The answer is that there will be no significant changes for customers.

Both in theory and in practice, the bank buys all rights and obligations. So when one bank takes over another, it takes over all the rights that that bank has, but also all its obligations. The contracts that have been signed so far remain unchanged. In translation, the interest on loans and savings remains the same, as do all the rights and obligations that you have previously signed.

Most importantly, the bank’s clients must follow the notifications because some technical things may change, but the bank will also find a way to inform you if you don’t get the information.

Specifically in the case of Komercijalna banka, the biggest change will be the new name: “NLB Komercijalna banka”.

With the sale of Komercijalna banka to the Slovenian bank NLB, 25 banks will operate in the Serbian market. Currently, according to the data of the National Bank of Serbia, there are 26 of them, and not long ago, up to 47 banks were operating in Serbia.

Meanwhile, a large number of banks that existed in the early 2000s have changed their corporate names and colors through acquisitions or mergers. The story about the sale of Komercijalna banka is currently the most current, but all of them are well reminiscent of National Savings Bank, HVB Bank, Metals Bank, Credy Bank, Continental Bank, Novi Sad Bank, Niska Bank, Panonska Bank, Yu Bank, Alfa Bank , Laiki Bank, Marfin Bank … banks whose names have gone down in history. If they did not fail, these banks changed their name and ownership.
