The normalization of economic relations between Belgrade and Pristina will not change Romania’s position of not recognizing the independence of Kosovo, according to the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the same time, the Romanian ministry welcomed the agreement signed on September 4 in Washington, and expressed its hope that it will contribute to the normalization of relations between the two parties.
“Romania hopes that the commitment shown by both parties during the EU-mediated dialogue and during the meeting in Washington will lead to the full normalization of relations between the two parties and strengthen the prospect of European integration for the entire region,” said the ministry.
The Ministry recalls that the position of that country on the question of the independence of Kosovo is based on principles and is derived from the general political consensus, as well as that it is based on respect for international law.
“Romania will support the resolution of the Kosovo status issue only if it is based on an agreement between the two parties involved, contributes to regional stability and is in line with international law,” the statement said, adding that Romania encourages stakeholders. in Pristina to implement international agreements, especially stabilization and association.
A few days ago, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it welcomes the Washington agreement, but that it will not change its position on the issue of Kosovo’s independence.
Apart from Spain and Romania, Kosovo’s independence has not been recognized by three other EU members: Greece, Cyprus and Slovakia.
