At 1,000 meters above sea level, on the same line with the area where the Serbs of northern Kosovo and Metohija form a compact population. This is a cause for concern, both in Kosovo and in Belgrade.

The height of Crnu is reached from two directions. It can be reached from the south from Vuitrn or from the north from the foot of the Stari trg mine.

In both approaches, the territory is inhabited exclusively by Albanians.

The base will cover almost 200 hectares. Currently, Crnua is used for mobile phone repeaters and radio and TV signals.

The owner of the space is the municipality of Mitrovica in June.

His leadership has ceded the country to security forces that are in the process of being transformed into an army.

“That base is practically like an echo in which nature waits. It is a base from which they can act with artillery weapons so that they do not move anywhere. It is enough from there for all the towns and the northern part to bomb and Serbs see great danger in building such a base, “” emphasizes Ilija Elezovi from the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica.

June Mitrovica is ruled by Albanians and the north by Serbs.

From the hill of Crnu, both parts of the city can be seen as in the palm of your hand.

In the southern part of Mitrovica, the northern Serbs don’t have the feeling. They suggest that the future base be named after Isa Boljetinac, the leader of the Albanian guerrilla resistance towards the Turks, Serbs and Montenegrins.

They say that with the new base, Mitrovica will be a stable city and “every inch of land will be protected.”

It has training camps, observation stations and it will be possible for them to make a kind of rapid crossing from that area, that is, a rapid penetration and deployment in northern Kosovo to the administrative line with central Serbia, in order to avoid a possible provision of aid by Belgrade to the Serbian population in distress, provided that KFOR does not stop such actions, ”says Milovan Drecun, Chairman of the Committee for Kosovo and Metohija of the Serbian Assembly.

The agreement between Belgrade and NATO is that members of the security forces cannot go to the north of Kosovo without the approval of KFOR.

KFOR says that NATO is still reviewing its level of engagement with the Kosovo security forces and continues to view them as a disaster response organization.

Since December 2017, when the Kosovo Assembly approved the transformation of the security forces into the army for ten years, that organization has been building infrastructure for several thousand soldiers.

Members of the security forces have recently been preparing for the first international mission and will also participate in NATO’s “Defender of Europe” operation, which covers the entire region except central Serbia.
