The Association of Journalists of Serbia names two televisions for the verdict that Dragan Solak, co-owner of United Group, received against the regime’s media before the Swiss court
The trial was carried out in accordance with Swiss law. All legal procedures have been followed, including that all documents and information related to the process have been duly provided to the parties to the dispute.
The Serbian Journalists Association dealt with the media who claimed that they did not receive an invitation, and based on the published documents of the Court, it was clearly seen that this was not true – the United Group legal team told Danas , on the occasion of the persecution. in Zurich.
In other words, according to this verdict, Pink, Informer and Studio B are obliged to pay compensation to United Group co-owner Dragan Šolak for a series of insults, slander and lies pronounced against them. JG’s legal team added that one of the defendants (Dragan J. Vučićević) also hired a lawyer, proving that he received a subpoena.
– The execution of the verdict will be made in accordance with the international agreements and obligations that Serbia has signed and assumed. We remind you that this is a civil lawsuit. For a judgment of a foreign court to have legal effect in Serbia, it must formally go through the procedure prescribed by law. Since this proceeding is still ongoing, it makes no sense to announce the verdict, United Group lawyers stressed.
Yesterday, the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) asked the journalists and editors of H1 and Nova televisions, as well as the Nova.rs portal, to, as they say, resist the pressure from the owners “and stop drastically violating the Journalists Code “. On the other hand, Slobodan Georgiev, director of Newsmax Adria, which is part of the United Group, told Danas that UNS replaces the thesis and attacks the only media that are free “for their own interests and personal wars.”
In a statement, UNS recalled that the code of ethics prescribes that “the economic and political interests of publishers must not influence editorial policy in a way that results in inaccurate, partial, incomplete and inopportune information from the public,” accusing H1, Nova and Nova.rs who violated ethical and professional standards by reporting on the judgment of the Zurich court in Dragan Šolak’s lawsuit against Pink, Informer and Studio B, as well as on the information published by UNS on this judicial process.
Yesterday’s UNS statement is the latest in a series of speeches to media companies operating within the United Group (co-owned by Dragan Solak) and accusations of withholding information about the verdict of a court in Switzerland that ruled last month that Pink, Informer and Studio B were required to pay compensation to Dragan Šolak for presenting falsehoods against him, as well as for his business, but also to refrain from the established practice of presenting slander and lies in the future, and to remove the links from the sites where the injured Šolak is mentioned.
UNS President Vladimir Radomirović and the President of the Court of Honor Ljiljana Smajlović expressed doubts about this verdict, asking why it was not made public. Then followed the persecution of the tabloids on H1, but also the response that the Swiss court ruled that it was a civil dispute and that its publication would jeopardize the protection of personal data.
Slobodan Georgiev says on behalf of Danas that since they called for war in the 1990s instead of dealing with journalism, UNS journalists do the same today.
– They attack the only media that are free, where they can only speak. It would be better if they called on their members, the journalists from RTS and RTV Vojvodina, to resist the influence of the owners. Let them rank your membership. There are no credible journalists in the UNS itself – Georgiev believes, calling “a dozen” journalists from this organization “worthwhile” to leave the association “that writes such statements.” Our interlocutor recalls that they showed a document confirming that the owner of Informer, Dragan J. Vučićević, received a summons from a Swiss court, which refutes the assertions of the representative of the UNS and of Vučićević himself.
– He got the call. Whether I wanted to receive it or not is another matter. Ljilja Smajlović intervened because she is fighting personal wars. They make a story where there is none. What do you mean by Sholak bribing a Swiss court? She is disappointed in the Swiss court, she said on the show. Well, the Swiss judiciary has a 500-year tradition, Georgiev emphasizes.
However, the president of the UNS, Vladimir Radomirović, believes that the answers to all the questions posed by this association have not been received.
– UNS is seeking a verdict that is hidden from the public. H1 posted the news of the verdict without seeing it. When asked by UNS if they had seen the verdict they reported, they later changed the story by inserting the wording that it was a statement from the United Group. Now H1 and other United Group media are attacking the UNS with the thesis that we are “protecting the Vučić media.” If the Zurich court issued a verdict against Informer, Pink and Studio B “Vučić’s media”, then whoever conceals that verdict protects – Radomirović testifies to Danas. The verdict specifically prohibited Informer’s owner and editor-in-chief Dragan J. Vučićević from making statements that violate Dragan Šolak’s personal rights, United Group said in a statement late last month. However, he continued with established practice.
When asked to comment on the verdict, Vučićević answered a counter question for ours a month ago:
– What verdict are you talking about? You got it? Have you seen her anywhere except on the H1 news? And how do you explain that an alleged verdict was handed down in Switzerland against the Serbian media without our presence? – said the owner of Informer, although the publicly presented document shows that he received a subpoena from a Swiss court and was familiar with the process that is being carried out against him. On the other hand, Pink’s owner Zeljko Mitrovic, although always available to Danas journalists, answering often unpleasant questions, this time did not rule on the summons or the verdict of the Swiss court.
However, even if they did not receive the subpoena from the Zurich court, which cleverly dodged the trial, that does not mean that the owners or editors of the media who lost the dispute will not have to respect the decisions of that court, when they become official. in Serbia. .
H1 calls UNS: Stop the campaign
“Under the pretext of protecting journalism, the UNS, chaired by Vladimir Radomirovic from the shadow of former president Ljiljana Smajlovic, is planting falsehoods that H1 journalists and editors edit the show under pressure from the owners. “Radomirović and Smajlović have spent days trying to make a ‘case’ that does not exist and they knowingly give ammunition to the tabloids that have shown several thousand times they violated the Code of Ethics according to the follow-up of the Press Council”, reads the signed H1 statement by all journalists and cameramen. The statement adds that Ljiljana Smajlović, as a member of the Council, permanently justifies the tabloid violations.
“H1 journalists independently edit the program and report on events in Serbia, without influence or pressure, and are free to express their views on editorial policy. H1 journalists call on UNS to stop the campaign of falsehoods against H1 and finally start to protect media workers in Serbia who are really under great pressure and who undoubtedly receive instructions not only from the owners, but also from the main authorities and other centers of political power “. , stated in the H1 statement.
