Epidemiologist Predrag Kon reiterated today that there is a possibility that the new corona virus will return in the fall and added that, depending on its behavior in the southern hemisphere, we will be able to assess what we can expect.

Responding to questions from journalists at the conference in the Serbian Palace, he stated that the virus is active in the southern hemisphere, but that it is not equally active everywhere.

“For example, he is not as active in Australia, indicating that it is not impossible to expect him to reach his potential there,” Kon said.

He added that, depending on the behavior of the virus in the southern hemisphere, we will be able to estimate what we can expect.

“I am quite skeptical about acquired immunity in our country. I don’t think there is that much because we have saved a lot, especially the elderly and children,” Kon said.

He added that if the virus returns to the northern hemisphere, then it finds “fertile ground” where more can be transmitted.

“There will be no vaccinations at that time, it is too early for that, so if the virus returns, we will be in a similar situation to the current one,” Kon said.

He stated that there is another possibility, and that is that the virus does not survive.

“We are very much in favor of the virus not disappearing and we will never see it again, but we must be ready for its eventual return in the autumn,” added Kon.
