PRISTINA – It is known that Kosovo is not treated as a sovereign state in the European Union, but EU officials have always downplayed the issue when speaking from the European perspective, Koha writes.

The text states that, however, it has never been so clearly stated that so-called Kosovo is not a country of the European Union and cannot apply for EU membership, as EU spokesman Peter Stano recently did in a press conference, Kosovo reports online.

Koha recalls that Stano said this answering the question of whether the so-called Kosovo can apply for EU membership, as it is now part of the obligation in documents signed in Washington, where it was promised that membership in international organizations would not be sought. .

Stano did not want to comment on what happened in Washington, saying that it is about the parties to the agreements, and not the EU, but limited himself to clarifying the possibility of the so-called Kosovo requesting accession to the EU.

“As for your question on whether Kosovo will be able to apply for EU membership, I’m afraid it will. I must remind you of the fact that there are still five Member States that have not recognized it. Kosovo cannot yet submit a formal application for EU membership, an EU spokesperson said, adding that so-called Kosovo has a clear European perspective.
