The main theme of the meeting could be the return of our citizens from abroad for the next vacation.

Will the borders be closed? And are this or some related measure being considered?

As crisis personnel and the Ministry of Health have not yet made recommendations on this issue, as things stand now, our citizens will normally, with registration, be able to enter Serbia and spend the holidays with their families.

However, epidemiologist and crisis staff member Branislav Tiodorović said the issue is under intense scrutiny. He pointed out that in the next two or three days it will be known whether special supervision and control measures will be introduced at the border crossings before the New Year and Christmas holidays.

After the previous crisis staff session, Tiodorović told reporters that this will be discussed in the coming days, to see which countries most of our citizens come from during the holidays.

– In the next two or three days we will have an answer on whether we will introduce special supervision and control measures. Measurements need to be entered, and that is the mandatory negative PCR test, that is, positive Igg antigen, which means someone has crossed the crown and has immunity. This is being done quite a bit in Europe and we should introduce it as well. Such is the situation, we have no other, that during all these holidays there will be everything, people want to continue traveling, it is possible that our people come for the holidays. As for foreigners, we must strengthen the measures, sure, with the exception that I would introduce them for our people who work abroad and who will come to Serbia – said the epidemiologist.

He says that health surveillance is still in place.

– All those who come, our people who come from Bosnia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, must receive an instruction at the border, and even if they do not receive it, if they return from somewhere, they would have to complete that form based on completing that questionnaire . then it is determined if someone is a suspect and if they should report to Kovid’s ambulance – he said.

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon agreed with him in the conversation and said that these measures have not been discussed so far, but that the system should definitely be developed in the next period.

– If you haven’t forgotten, we had a surveillance system in early September for the arrival of our people from the countries affected by the covid. Something like that will surely be in the spotlight. Another option that could be considered is that our people take the test when entering the country. However, this option should be well considered. Such a measure cannot be taken. We have to plan everything, especially if 100,000 people come to us at once – said Kon.

That the PCR test is one of the options was previously confirmed for “Blic” by the director of “Batuta”, Dr. Verica Jovanović. She says it is still too early to consider introducing new measures at the Serbian borders before the New Year holidays.

– The New Year is too far away to assess the epidemiological situation and the measures that could be taken at that time. What is certain, our citizens will be able to enter the country, as has been the case until now – says Dr. Jovanovic.

He then mentioned that a possible measure to enter Serbia could be a mandatory negative PCR test, but that this has yet to be discussed.

As a general rule, our people usually come the day before Catholic Christmas and around the New Year, and as our epidemiologists stated, the flu usually appears after St. Nicholas, so the risk of an outbreak is twice as high.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić recently announced that a crisis staff session will take place early next week.

When asked by journalists whether additional measures against the spread of the coronavirus will be introduced before the New Year holidays, Brnabic said they think of new measures every day and follow the data every two hours.

– Our people will return, we will monitor the epidemiological situation in all countries and introduce measures if necessary. We monitor every day and think of new additional measures, Brnabić noted.
