Today, the Government of Montenegro renewed the request to Serbia for the extradition of Svetozar Marović to Montenegro, said Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović.
Abazovic told an extraordinary press conference that in order to create better relations with Serbia, the government believes that the request for the extradition of a man who is the personification of the crime is justified.
“It is justified and highly compromising that Marović, who admitted that he is leading a criminal group, is free to walk in another country and his son is doing business,” Abazović said.
Justice, Human and Minority Rights Minister Vladimir Leposavic said the request was sent by DHL before the press conference.
He remembered that the previous vada had already submitted a request once.
After that request, the previous authorities sent two emergencies. Now we have the application submitted a second time. It is not in the practice of international relations that the request is repeated every year, but also that the neighboring country does not officially respond to the request. So far it has not happened for reasons that we cannot know, we are repeating this request, “said Leposavic.
He explained that the extradition request was sent on the basis of two international acts: a bilateral agreement with Serbia on extradition and the European Convention on Extradition.
It stated that Marović is being sought on the basis of the High Court judgments of September 12 and 21, 2016, the verdict on the reversal of the December 29, 2016 judgment and the corresponding orders and decisions.
“In this, as in all acts of this type, the Government first guarantees the principle of specialty: that the person whose extradition is requested cannot be prosecuted for another act, except for the one who is wanted and convicted”, Laposavic said.
Leposavic affirmed that the extradition request establishes that Montenegro will guarantee the treatment of Marovic, which is why he was not extradited, and that it could be heard in the media.
When asked what they expect from Serbia, he replied that the government is meeting its legal obligations.
“We will not express any special expectations, such as political messages or threats to state relations. Our commitment to what we think about this is expressed in this request,” Leposavic said.
Responding to the question of whether it is true that the Marovic case will become obsolete next year in September, he said that the government will try to inform the public about this case on a daily basis.
“The objective is not to send an extradition request to disrupt relations between states, and none of the members of the government wants to use the legal situation to change international relations, especially not to make them worse … In extradition cases, we must work together. the state, “Leposavić said.
