Famous actor Ivan Bekjarev passed away at the age of 74, leaving behind many notable roles.

He was forced to change his last name three times, all because of the notorious head of the Gestapo, Boško Bećarović.

That is, Ivan’s father was originally from Macedonia and his last name was Bećarev, and later “ić” was added to it. However, after Ivan’s birth, they changed that surname Bećarević to Bekjarev, to avoid inconvenience, since that was his surname Boško Bećarević.

– My father’s last name was Bećarev, but since the Macedonian nation was not recognized in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, he had to add “ić”. After World War II, the most hated person in Belgrade was the head of the Gestapo, Boško Bećarović. Because of him, the father had to return the old surname, since every Monday he received a call from the police to check if it had something to do with the Gestapo chief. However, to make it look less like the notorious boss’s last name, my father changed it to Bekjarev, Ivan once said, adding that his last name was Bećarev, Bećarević and Bekjarev.

And to the question of what his favorite last name is, the actor answered the following:

– This is what I still wear today, because we are the only Bekjars in the world – he concluded at the time.
