On August 9 last year, Mitic killed Kocic, who was standing by the road at the entrance to Niska Banja, driving an unregistered BMW drunk and drugged, to help the driver of the “Zastava 101”, Mladen Davidovic, to change your tire. Mitic did not even notice the stopped vehicle, and at a speed of 75 kilometers per hour, he struck a young man who was kneeling next to the asphalt.

DRIVER’S LICENSE

Mitic has been in classic custody since August 9, 2019 and has been under house arrest since April 22. He was not present at yesterday’s sentencing, but this time it will be included in his prison sentence.

He was also banned from driving a category B vehicle for up to five years. However, he does not have any permits, so as Judge Savić explained, this prohibition will be valid for the next five years after serving the sentence.

– The convicted Mitic is the father of a minor. During the trial, he behaved correctly, told the truth and showed that he sincerely regrets it. However, it was violent driving under the influence of a large amount of alcohol and narcotics, without a license, in an unregistered car, Nis High Court Judge Tamara Savić said, explaining the verdict.

The prosecution demanded six years and the victim’s family spent 12 years in prison.

– We are not satisfied with the amount of the sentence, because we believe that only life imprisonment can be a warning to anyone who dares to get behind the wheel drunk and thus kill someone. It will not return anything to our son, but we appeal to the authorities to change the law and that said drivers be severely punished – said the parents of the victim Stefan, Biljana and Zvezdan Kocic after the verdict was pronounced. – He wanted to help the driver in trouble, and had no idea that kindness would cost him his life.

In any case, Davidović’s own behavior is debatable, which was pointed out by Judge Savić, who stated during sentencing that he lied in court despite being under oath and that he expects the prosecution to react ex officio. Incidentally, Davidović did not correctly mark the vehicle, which he stopped in the lane.
