Something was moving in the bag, here is the baby, she is alive!

First I found a bloody bag: towels and underwear! Everything was soaked in blood, I knew the baby was there somewhere, and then at the bottom of the other container I pulled out a black bag that was tied in a knot. I felt something move under my fingers and then I screamed, “Here’s the baby, she’s alive!”

This is how Katarina Ilić (23), an employee of PS Obrenovac, started her confession for Kurir, who together with Dušan Marjanović, the ambulance driver, and his companions found the baby in the container and saved him.

– We received a report that a woman had given birth and that she had thrown her baby. I went to the field with the team and there we found an ambulance. One of them went to the fifth floor to find out where the baby and the mother were, and Dušan and I went to look for the container – says Ilić and adds: – There are four containers in front of the building. In the first I found a large black bag soaked with blood. Inside were towels, underwear, gauze … I told Dušan that there were deliveries here because there is a lot of blood.

Then he received a call from the commander, who told him to go to the family department where they were questioning the mother’s mother.

– The grandmother murmured that the baby was in another container. I ran from the fourth floor and kept digging. At the bottom of the container I found a black bag in which something was moving. I cry: “She is alive, she is alive!”

I brought her to her knees and started hitting her to make her cry, and finally I felt relief as she cried. I didn’t want to be separated from her, so I went to the hospital with the ambulance.

After the heroic act, she fell to her knees and began to laugh and cry at the same time, along with her companions (Lukić, Bursać and Ivić), with whom, as she says, she shares good and evil. Milja P. (23) gave birth on Wednesday at her parents’ apartment in Obrenovac. Police arrested her mother BP on suspicion of throwing her granddaughter into a dumpster.
