The doctors at the Belgrade Emergency Center did a real feat. In a 75-year-old Rakovica patient, doctors removed a tumor from his abdomen measuring up to 12 kilograms and more than 30 centimeters long.
A complicated and life-threatening procedure was performed yesterday morning that lasted about two hours, Infrmer writes.
The tumor change began to develop from the left ovary, and since these are diseases that progress very quickly, in a very short time the tumor has spread to the entire abdominal cavity.
The operation was uneventful and the patient is recovering successfully.
According to the surgeon Dr. Vladimir Vukojević, who was in charge of the medical team, due to the size of the tumor and its extension, rapid intervention was needed.
– The woman was immediately admitted to the surgery service. Due to the corona virus epidemic, we are doing everything more carefully than before, because we have to protect both patients and ourselves. We had no time to waste, because these are tumors that are expanding and growing at a rapid rate. When we opened the stomach, we saw what they showed us in the video. A huge tumor filled with mucus. After two and a half hours, we successfully removed it. If I had a solid weight, I am afraid it would reach 50 kilograms – explains our interlocutor and points out that the operation passed without complications and that the patient is well and that her life has been saved.
