Vasilije Mićić (76), owner of the construction company “Putevi Užice” and the hotel “Palisad” in Zlatibor, died this morning in Moscow from the consequences of the coronavirus, as confirmed by his family.
Micic, probably the largest businessman in western Serbia, was treated in the best hospitals in Moscow due to complications caused by the virus, he was on a ventilator for the last seven days, but he did not manage to overcome the disease.
The owner of the construction giant was born in the town of Rožanstvo in Zlatibor, spent his entire working life outside of Serbia and his company’s first business abroad was related to Iraq.
He has lived in the Russian capital since the 1990s and his company had lucrative businesses all over the country. “Roads of Uzice” has built more than two million square meters of residential, commercial, hotel, scientific and educational facilities throughout Russia. This company had similar jobs in other cities. Micic’s company built the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the city of Valdai, as well as the residence of Boris Yeltsin in Sochi. He participated in the construction of the airport and the Olympic village in Sochi. Thanks to Vasilije Mićić and his entrepreneurial skills, tens of thousands of Serbian workers, most from Užice, made money in Russia.
Years ago, his company undertook the construction of roads throughout Serbia. Also, buildings in Israel and Algeria remained behind Mićić’s “Roads”.
In 2003, Mićić bought “Palisad” and converted the ruined building into a modern hotel. He built four football fields in Zlatibor and his plan was to build ten more. He was the financier of the FC “Jedinstvo Putevi” of Uzice, the founder of several churches in the Uzice area, the sponsor of many actions, the donor, among others, of the Uzice General Hospital.
