Tonight, the Independent Association of Journalists (NUNS) condemned the “brutal attacks, hate speech and threats” sent to the deputy chief editor of the weekly NIN, Vesna Malisic, on the social network Twitter and asked the authorities to “as soon as possible “determine who is responsible.

NUNS stated that “journalist and former professor at the Faculty of Media and Communication Zoran Ćirjaković” was “rightly suspected” of being behind the order from which the threats were sent.

“Hate speech and the call for a lynching should in no way be an integral part of regular communication between people who think differently.” Because the fact that the suspect has never participated in a violent event does not mean that all people who read his posts look at what he wrote only as part of some controversy, “the statement read.

NUNS called on other media and journalistic organizations to “oppose hate speech and threats as ‘arguments’ in the exchange of opinions.”

“We believe that this should be done by political parties and other organizations, and that our common task should be to fight for the creation of a democratic and tolerant atmosphere in society,” the statement read.

Vesna Malisic’s threats were previously condemned by the editorial office of the NIN and the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS).
