NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that NATO supports the development of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF), but only in its original mandate.

Jens Stoltenberg noted that NATO continues to support the development of the Kosovo Security Force under its original mandate.

– Since December 2017, we have made it clear that this movement (change of mandate) was withdrawn at the wrong time and that the decision was made against the NATO Council. NATO continues to support the development of the Kosovo Security Force under its original mandate, namely the Civil Protection Force, Stoltenberg said in an interview with Klan Kosova television.

– With the change of mandate, the North Atlantic Council is reviewing NATO’s level of engagement with the Kosovo Security Forces. Discussions among the allies on this issue are ongoing, Stoltenberg explained.

He said that the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue process is key to stability in the Western Balkans.

– We call on Belgrade and Pristina to continue their efforts to normalize relations, especially through dialogue with the help of the EU, aimed at reaching a global, sustainable and legally binding agreement, which NATO continues to support. That remains a key issue for peace and security in the region, Stoltenberg stressed.
