Pete Robson from England thought it would be interesting for his son to buy a bottle of this drink for every birthday until he reached the age of majority, and for a young man under 18 to collect 18 bottles of rare and quality whiskey. However, the tradition continued later, and the result of these gifts was a small fortune that the young man eventually received.
Matthew Robson was born in 1992 and his father Pete gave him a bottle of whiskey for every birthday. He spent 5,500 euros on 28 bottles, and today the collection is worth a small fortune, that is, more than 45,000 euros, and was put up for sale.
Matthew admitted that it wasn’t exactly the best gift for a child, but as he received strict instructions from his father to “never open bottles,” the collection became something of a “housing inventory.”
– Every year I received whiskey as a birthday present. I thought it was quite a strange gift because I was too young to start drinking. But he warned me not to open them, ”Matthew said.
His father Pete said that the first bottle of whiskey from 1974 was bought for the birth of his son.
“I thought it would be interesting if he bought it every year, and he would have 18 bottles of 18-year-old whiskey by his 18th birthday,” he said.
“It wasn’t the only gift he got from us, just something unique, but hopefully we continue the tradition,” says Pete.
Meanwhile, this collection has become interesting for collectors, and Matthew hopes to sell his collection for 45,000 euros and use the money to buy a house.
