Lawyer Miloš Paligorić, defender of MM (28), who was beaten on 24 August in Novi Sad, claimed that the suspect in the assassination attempt, Ivan Kontić, had already filed a criminal complaint for six days when he went to the Superior Prosecutor’s Office of that city.
Paligorić confirmed for the newspaper “Danas” that he filed the report on September 2 and later stated the names of the suspect for beating his client.
On September 8, Kontić, accompanied by his defense lawyer, went to the prosecution building to postpone the criminal proceedings for the crime from 2018 by paying a charity, and the prosecution said that at that time the police of Novi Sad did not officially establish the identity of the attacker. , but they left out the data of the criminal report, reported Nova.rs portal, and confirmed by the Basic Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the deputy prosecutor, who wanted to remain anonymous, the deputy of the Basic Prosecutor’s Office, who reached an agreement with Kontić on the postponement of the criminal process, could not know at the time that he was a suspect of another crime.
“When an opportunity agreement is reached, the deputy prosecutor checks whether the person has been previously convicted, as well as whether the principle of opportunity has already been applied to him. He does not check whether that person is covered by any investigation at that time. The prosecutor could not do it, namely, especially before the criminal complaint is delivered to the Superior Prosecutor’s Office ”, said the interlocutor of the newspaper“ Danas ”.
He added that in that building, which, among other things, houses both prosecution offices, it is not a practice to control identification cards at the entrance.
“Personal documents are not checked at the entrance. The main question is what is the reason for the visit, so if someone wants to go to the part of the building where the offices of the judges and prosecutors are, they check by phone to see if that person has an appointment. Nobody checks at the entrance if someone is a suspect in an investigation, “he said.
