The SPOS invites the authorities to verify this information and, if it is correct, to examine the quality of the imported honey.

– If someone (importer) sues us for any reason due to this information, we are at the disposal of the competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia, but then we will also publicly announce the name of the honey buyer. We invite the authorities to verify the quality of this honey in our laboratories and abroad, so that our consumers do not eat something other than honey, in case this honey is not correct. Of course, it is quite possible that it is correct, but if the analyzes prove it, it is pointed out in the SPOS announcement.

Who do you buy honey from?

They think it is completely unbelievable that in the time of global honey shortage in the world, which occurred due to an extremely bad production year, one can find and introduce a quality product that is 2.5 to 5.6 times cheaper than the price. current honey market in our country.

– We tell consumers to pay close attention when buying honey – they point out in SPOS.

This is the second time in the last six months that honey has been imported to the national market at a low price, which endangers the national beekeeping. In June this year, the SPOS also warned that 42 tons of honey were imported from Moldova at a price of 2.2 euros per kilogram and said that the import was legitimate, but that this price was not fair to domestic suppliers.

The beekeeping organization warned in August that domestic honey production, due to unfavorable weather conditions, fell to the lower branches this season, that Serbia is practically on the verge of a honey shortage and that such a situation could lead to an increase in imports and prices. in the market.

In Serbia, 6,000 to 12,000 tons of honey are produced per year, depending on the year. The SPOS estimated that in 2020 honey will be 80 percent lower than average and that production will not exceed 2,000 tonnes. The final status of the performance, as they said, will be known only in April next year.

– We have nothing against importing honey. These people were looking for a free market 20 years ago and they got it. We are against if something is wrong with that honey – is concluded in the announcement of SPOS.
