The Third Court of First Instance of Belgrade today sentenced the former head of the Traffic Police Administration, General Dragisa Simic, to a one-year suspended prison sentence for abusing his official position in connection with a misdemeanor trial.
The verdict will not be executed if he does not commit a new crime within three years from the date on which the verdict is final, it was announced from the Third Basic Prosecutor’s Office, which began a process against him four years ago.
Simic is charged because, as head of the Traffic Police Administration from 2011 to 2014, in use of his official powers, he ordered not to initiate a process for misconduct against some people or to withdraw the requests to start a process that have already been presented.
He was relieved of that position in 2014.
His petty crimes were overshadowed by a love affair due to which Simić recently returned to the public spotlight. At that time, singer Ljupka Stević smashed two expensive cars in a fit of rage and knocked him out for an alleged fraud involving three minors.
