Professor Bojan Lalic from the Faculty of Technical Sciences of Novi Sad and head of the Department of Industrial Engineering, gave a lecture to his students from the red zone of the Kovid Hospital of the Vojvodina Clinical Center.
Of course, the lecture was held at a distance, as has become common in the faculties, but this time, instead of the conditions of the home, the class had to be done from bed, he writes “Telegraf”.
The professor, by the way, has a moderate form of the disease, had a high fever and a strong cough, but managed to avoid oxygen. Now he is slowly recovering, so he did not want to deny the students the first lecture on the topic of Strategic Project Management. As he says, there is no better cure for a teacher than the gift of knowledge.
– That exchange of energy means a lot, regardless of whether it is through the Internet. They are young people looking for knowledge and it is time to help them. If we follow the healing line, we will lose the entire semester. Pacing is important, it must be taught from week to week. When the compensation period is made, it is not of that quality – said the professor.
However, it was not such an easy endeavor. We are not talking about a person who is in quarantine, just a little cold. The lecture also requires full lungs, but Professor Lalic is proof that it is useless if the heart is empty.
– To be honest, I was sweating. I got out of that physical rhythm a bit. So far I have not lectured since the hospital, because after all, I need to talk for an hour and a half and I need to have lung capacity, breathe and make everything acceptable. Maybe I could have gotten involved a few days earlier, but then my cough would have interrupted the conference. But when it can, why not, it is curative for us who practice that profession – says the professor.
– I am deeply grateful to my roommates Mitar and Gojko, who agreed to be silent for an hour and a half – says the teacher.
He was in communication with the students through the online platform even before the conference. To his delight, he also scheduled a conference, so in addition to “See you tomorrow,” he also received wishes for recovery. But when the camera was turned on, the red zone was no longer an issue.
– We have put in the background the complete situation of my call from the red zone, it is not an issue if I call from my office, from home or from the hospital, it should not interfere, because that later removes the focus of what we are talking about – explains the teacher.
He has been in the hospital for just over a week and is on the way to recovery. Soon, if the lung scan is fine on Sunday, the teacher could continue the treatment at home, and therefore of course online lectures.
One of the students who attended today’s conference is Anđela Renovica.
– The conference lasted from 12:15 to 13:45. Unfortunately, it was from the hospital, but the professor really tried not to miss out on the quality of the lectures. We all introduced ourselves, the professor introduced us, presented the work plan for this year and explained what a strategic manager is doing in the company. I had listened to his lectures before and really this looked similar, I didn’t notice there was a lack of quality. Really, all the credit for dedication – Angela told us.
By the way, unlike last year, now, he says, all lectures and exercises are organized through a single platform from Microsoft teams, there are certain dates to enter lectures, and students who cannot attend can continue the lecture recorded later. There is also a group where students and teachers exchange information 24 hours a day …
– I have to say, as far as our teachers are concerned, I am absolutely satisfied, I have not noticed a decline in the quality of teaching, I get everything I need from knowledge. I would like a little more colleagues to get involved with the cameras. We are all in our own homes and we feel comfortable. I think some people feel more comfortable joining the conversation from home – he said.
