Spanish newspaper on elections in Kosovo: Kurti will win and complicate negotiations with Serbia

Reviews of the elections in Kosovo today are rare in the EU media, especially with the assessment that the outcome will complicate Kosovo’s negotiations with Serbia.

The Spanish newspaper “País” estimates that the “expected victory of the Self-Determination Movement” will complicate the negotiations because its leader, Albin Kurti, “set unattainable preconditions.”

The Pristina reporter “paisa” noted that dialogue with Serbia “is not at all on the agenda of the Self-Determination Movement, although it is fundamental for both parties.”

The Spanish newspaper writes that the voters surveyed emphasized that it is important for them to reduce unemployment and corruption, the problem is the EU’s refusal to abolish visas for Kosovo, but relations with Serbia are not on the list of important issues for they.

The report cites a statement by analysts from the Pristina GAP Institute of Socio-Economic Affairs that “the elections will be much more a vote against the old politics than for the Self-Determination Movement.”

Voters surveyed stated that “self-determination is the least bad of all …, so let’s try it,” concludes “Country.”
