What can a pedestrian do in Belgrade in 15 seconds? Walk or run through the intersection near the Youth Center. The list of traffic possibilities offered by the capital is richer than the current one for another privilege: crossing the intersection diagonally. For that, the pedestrian stayed with a quarter of a minute.
Whether for a short time or inexperience only on the first day of crossing the diagonal crosswalk in Belgrade at the corner of Makedonska and Dečanska streets, many corridors could be seen between the pedestrians.
Thus, “Blic” noticed two women running from “Staklenac” to Dom omladine running steps on the “furry zebra”.
Of course, there were also pedestrians who casually took the “diagonal”. It’s as if they’ve been doing that for years or came from Tokyo, London, or New York, where such a crossing was introduced at intersections in the first place.
Judging from the opening day, the first diagonal crosswalk will speed up traffic. There were no traffic jams between vehicles or pedestrians.
However, keep in mind that today is a week in which there is traditionally not much traffic in the city center.
Also, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, traffic jams in the capital are not like they used to be on weekdays.
So the real effect of this traffic newspaper will be seen when all the employees stop working from home due to the crown and go to work in the full sense of the word.
By the way, according to initial announcements from city leaders, the intersection near the Youth Center should have been traffic lights so that pedestrians have “green” for 30 seconds and drivers for 90 seconds. But, on the first day, the “green guy” at the pedestrian light went on for about 15 seconds.
