BELGRADE – In the Rakovica monastery, it is said that since this morning, a large number of believers have come to light a candle for the peace of the soul of the Serbian patriarch, but also for tomorrow’s Arandjelovdan holiday.

Mirjana Barišić, a retired astronomy teacher, has been helping at the monastery since the death of Patriarch Pavle. He says that this morning a liturgy was celebrated with five people because of the corona virus.

– When Patriarch Pavle passed away, there was swine flu. I kissed the cross and did not get sick, since then I have been here helping with the approval of the abbess. Now it is a virus again and we do not know what the funeral will be like. People come and respect the measures, a large number of them lit a candle for Patriarch Irinej. Paul’s grave is still visited, people come from all over the world, and last year up to 30 French people converted to Orthodoxy here …

A Kurir believer says he knew the deceased patriarch personally and came to pay his respects.

“We are very sad because he left us so quickly after Amfilohije,” he says. People have come since this morning, but protection measures against the corona virus are being respected.
