A monument to the sediment of what this government leaves behind

Visual artist and writer Dejan Atanacković stated in Novi Dan that he is not in favor of demolishing the Stefan Nemanja monument, but of its relocation, noting that it is a symbol of the Serbian government and President Aleksandar Vučić.

It should be remembered that the Stefan Nemanja monument in Savski trg divided the public on whether it belongs there, whether it violates the aesthetics of that part of the city, and there is a special controversy over its price, which officials have not yet declared. transparently.

On the occasion of the protest to be held in front of the Faculty of Philosophy for this monument, Atanackovic said that the reason was “the expression of civil discontent with what is happening and what this monument is a symbol of.”

“We want to express our position, but also invite citizens to a broader and deeper discussion about what to do with this monument in the near future,” he said.

Commenting on Goran Vesić’s allegations, he said that he “expects nothing more from him.”

“It is interesting to me that in my speech he interpreted that I am asking for the demolition of the monument, which is not true. I suppose it comes from the complex of his personality conflict, which is already dedicated to various devastations of Belgrade. It is not my intention to ask for the demolition, I want to have fun promoting the idea of moving the monument ”, explained Atanackovic.

He asked what this monument is, what is its purpose and what is its symbolism.

“Do we have here a monument to Stefan Nemanja or a brutal symbol of the progressive regime and Aleksandar Vučić?” I have nothing against seeing the fall of this monument, but it is not my wish, it is not what I wish and invoke. On the contrary, I believe that a scenario in which the monument is demolished would be bad for everyone, and especially for the government. With the fall of this monument, the government would probably experience a very similar fate, “Atanackovic said.

“I advise Vesić not to request such images, none of us really want that, and if that happens, only this regime will be responsible for that,” he said.

Commenting on the aesthetics of this monument, he considers it to be a “criminogenic disgust and expression of pathological megalomania”.

“I do not accept at all that we have a monument to Stefan Nemanja here. That must be defined very clearly as a residue of what this government leaves behind,” Atanackovic believes.

In his opinion, “in the future, this monument cannot be related in any way to anything, except the heritage of this government and its planned destruction of Belgrade.”

When speaking of the price of this monument, he affirms that it was declared a state secret in a totally unconstitutional way, under the pretext of thus protecting the security of the state.

“It seems to me that this government is very afraid to reveal to the union that the citizens of Serbia and Belgrade are paying for this miracle. Hiding that price hides a lot, including everything that represents an arrogant and criminal misuse of the budget. There are probably many people and integrated companies that are involved in this effort, “Atanackovic concluded.
