The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, said today that “Albania and Kosovo cannot decide to eliminate the border because Belgrade, Washington and Brussels would oppose it, interpreting it as Greater Albania,” reports TV Kljan Kosova.
After a meeting between the Albanian and Kosovo governments in Tirana, when asked why the border has not yet been removed, Rama said such a thing could not happen without a regional agreement.
– A mistake that is made often, some others made it because they do not want to understand, because they do not care more deeply, but simply like it as a fairy tale – said Rama.
He added that these are categories of people who do not understand the simple connection between the release of barriers between the so-called Kosovo and Albania and the regional Schengen, and that the agreement signed at the White House includes the issue of the Balkan “mini-Schengen”.
He pointed out that all these years it has been heard that the border will be removed, that there will be no waiting at the crossings, but that this is not happening.
– That is not happening, and nothing else is happening correctly, because if it does not happen in the regional context, it cannot happen in the bilateral context either – said Rama.
He emphasized that those who preach it either do so intentionally or do not understand it.
– Albania and Kosovo cannot decide to eliminate the border bilaterally, because Belgrade would not be built, but Washington and Brussels – the first thing they will say is Greater Albania – Rama emphasized.
Asking the question – what is the way then, he said that “the way is to enter this context where we have already entered, for our own interest, for our own benefit, and not for the benefit of others”.
– Today we talk about removing the border. You can be sure that there is no way for someone from Belgrade or Brussels to come and say “Greater Albania”, because we have entered the regional process – said Rama.
According to him, “the sea belongs to the Albanians, it does not belong to the Serbs, the port belongs to the Albanians, it does not belong to the Serbs.”
