The long-term head of the Emergency Situations Sector, Predrag Marić, passed away as a result of the corona virus, RTS reported.

Predrag Maric was diagnosed with the corona virus in late December and, after the first mild symptoms, his condition worsened during January.

Predrag Marić was born on May 14, 1964 in Smederevo. He graduated from Belgrade Law School in 1990, where he also did specialization studies in the field of terrorism, organized crime and corruption.

He worked in the Serbian Ministry of the Interior since 1990. He carried out administrative and legal tasks, as well as the control of the traffic of dangerous goods until 2003, when he was assigned to the position of head of the Department of Supervision of Inspection in the Administration of the Fire Police .

Two years later, he became the head of the Directorate for Fire Protection and Rescue of the Ministry of the Interior of Serbia and, from June 2006, he also became an advisor to the Minister of the Interior.

The following year, he was appointed Undersecretary of the Interior and Head of the Emergency Situations Sector in the Ministry of the Interior. In the Government session of March 8, 2012, his mandate was extended for another five years.

He was awarded the Order of the National Order of Special Merit in the rank of Knight of the French State for his special contribution in the construction of the protection and rescue system and the Sector for Emergency Situations itself.

By decree of the President of the Republic of Serbia, for his dedication to work, he was awarded the gold medal for his zealous service in 2011. The prestigious “Best Citizen” award was presented to him in 2009.

He is the author of the books “Terrorism and organized crime”, “Emergency management” and “Traffic in explosives”.

He has been a professor at the Belgrade Criminal Police Academy on the subject of Prevention and Suppression of Fires, Accidents and Explosions since 2010.
