– We Serbs do not have a national narrative, but we have Kosovo. Kosovo is much more than a bribe. The myth is a question of imagination, and Kosovo is a vote for our patriarch and our church, it is a question of identity. Kosovo is vertical, something that shapes the past and at the same time something without which there is no future – said the Metropolitan.
Commenting on the late Patriarch Irinej’s criticism that “it was not modern,” he noted that “the church is always modern.”
– Our patriarch and Church is always modern, because it bears witness to Christ, and he is always out of time and space, he is always “fresh” – he pointed out.
The Metropolitan also referred to the identity ties between our country and Russia and the Russian people.
– We are linked to Russia by a question of identity, and that is a question of faith. We are tied by the church. We share the same values and the same worldviews, our history is intertwined with that of Russia – said the Metropolitan.
The Metropolitan of Porfirio stressed that the Serbian Orthodox Church had suffered a great blow in the previous period.
– The church suffered a great blow by the death of Metropolitan Amfilohije and Patriarch Irinej. We lost the two strongest pillars. On the other hand, the church is always ready for a new page, for a sequel that is actually a continuity. It is a new page, but it is the same book. The patriarch had a great heart, he did not care what others said about him and what they did to him, but he did care what he said and what he did. He respected all men – said the Metropolitan of Porphyry.
