The plants of the copper smelter in Bor as part of RTB were paralyzed today for a longer period until the conditions for production without air pollution are created, workers at that company told the website istmedia.rs.

They claim that the plants have been idle for at least two months and some workers will be temporarily employed in other jobs.

According to Ist media reports, representatives of the company Zidjin, owner of RTB, yesterday held a meeting with the Minister of Mines and Energy, Aleksandar Antic, in Belgrade, and that conversation was also attended by the Chinese ambassador to Serbia, Chen Bo.

Production at the Bor smelter was suspended following prolonged sulfur dioxide contamination of Bor and its surroundings, criminal charges against those responsible for the smelter brought by city authorities, and announcements of a civil protest scheduled for the Saturday, September 19.

The measurement stations of the Environmental Protection Agency in Bor today between 14.00 and 15,000 registered increased values of PM-10 particles in the air, while sulfur was in the allowed values.
