Today, “Zelenilo Beograd” planted an exotic type of trees, palm trees, in the green area in front of the Cvijeta Zuzorić pavilion in Kalemegdan.

This is the first time in Belgrade that palm trees have been planted in the public green zone, which until now have not been characteristic of this region of ours, announced the utility company.

Six trees of the species “Traćycarpus fortunei” were planted, the seedlings were imported from Spain and can withstand low temperatures down to -15 degrees Celsius.

The experts of “Zelenil” selected specimens of about 3.5 meters in height, of equal height.

The seedlings are said to give an aesthetic effect to the green surface immediately after planting.

Palm trees were planted in two rows, three trees each, as the entrance to Kalemegdan Park and access to the pavilion were emphasized.

The company points out that in recent years we have witnessed climate change, which is slowly changing from the continental to more similar to the sub-Mediterranean, so that the winters in Belgrade have become mild and without extremely low temperatures.

This opened the possibility for “Zelenilo-Belgrade” to plant palm trees in the public green zone for the first time.

However, greening with exotic species is not something that does not exist in Belgrade, as adult specimens of palms, bananas, olive trees and the like have been successfully cultivated in private gardens for years.

The type of palm that was planted today in Kalemegdan very well, without damage, withstands low temperatures of down to minus 15 degrees Celsius.

During the winter months, the palm trees will protect themselves by connecting the canopy and protecting the trunk from low temperatures.

In the following days, “Zelenilo” will plant spherical shapes of fotinia, lavender and seasonal flowers around the palm trees, which will give the green area in front of the Cvijeta Zuzorić pavilion its final and unusual appearance.
