FAMOUS GERMAN VIRUSOLOGIST ON SELF-ISOLATION: Advocates for this period to be shortened from 14 to 5 days, and here's why

So far, self-isolation in Germany has lasted two weeks.

Drosten advocates shortening self-isolation because he believes it will maintain the level of acceptance of epidemiological measures in society, but also adds that the five-day self-isolation is “on the verge of being epidemiologically acceptable.”

This virologist recommends that people in self-isolation do not dedicate that period to testing and that they get tested after their period of self-isolation has passed. Drosten believes they are most infected with the coronavirus in a five-day period, but notes that this remains an unproven thesis.

His statement sparked a discussion in the German public, which is why Drosten later clarified that his proposal refers to so-called infected groups, not in general.

In any case, the German federal and provincial authorities agreed that those arriving in Germany from risk areas need mandatory coronavirus tests and five days of isolation.
