The head of the Directorate of Criminal Police, Dejan Kovacevic, hopes that Ivan Kontic, suspected of brutally beating a 28-year-old on Jevrejska Street in Novi Sad, will be arrested very soon, noting that the police, as always, boarded the case professionally.
Kovacevic said an international arrest warrant had been issued for the suspect and he was being intensively searched.
According to it, the insinuations and claims of individuals that the police dealt with the case in an unprofessional manner are not true, stating that the police immediately began the investigation of the attack on August 24, according to the report of the medical workers.
He added that the injured party did not cooperate with the police until September 2, and recalled that yesterday in the territory of Novi Sad various searches and that two people were arrested.
Speaking about yesterday’s car explosion in which Strahinja Stojanović was killed, Kovačević said the investigation is ongoing and it would be thankless to discuss the details.
He recalled that the police shed light on the recent murder in Banjica in two hours, as well as the murder in Kaludjerica, after just over 24 hours, noting that Serbia is a safe country.
He also assessed that the police are under pressure from a part of the citizenry, including the opposition, stating that criticism from the opposition “distracts attention and creates discomfort among citizens.”
