The French ambassador in Pristina, Marie-Christine Butel, stated that there will be no visa liberalization in the near future for the citizens of Kosovo and Metohija because all the necessary guarantees to approve visa-free travel have not been met.
Marie-Christine Butel told the Pristina media that Paris’s position on visa liberalization remains unchanged and that France has noted positive progress, but that the laws adopted have not yet produced tangible and sustainable effects.
– Therefore, France, together with some other EU member states, believes that all the necessary guarantees have not yet been met at this stage – added the French ambassador.
On the other hand, the European Parliament rapporteur for Kosovo, Viola von Cramon, asked the European Union to do its “homework” and approve visa liberalization as soon as possible.
Von Cramon said that the Foreign Affairs Committee recently adopted its report on Kosovo and that the final report will be adopted in plenary session on March 24.
– We welcome the commitment of Pristina, but there is still a long way to go before joining the EU. Much needs to be done to improve the rule of law and fight corruption more. Kosovo must implement its energy commitments to combat air pollution. We want the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina to continue. This is of interest to both parties – said Von Cramon.
