The leadership of the National Assembly should be elected next week, so that the race for the Speaker of Parliament, Maja Gojković’s successor, enters its goal. Although everything is uncertain until the official proposal and its adoption, several names stand out for this function.

As Kurir unofficially finds out, for now, the top favorite is Vladimir Orlić, the deputy head of the SNS parliamentary group in the last parliament. Besides him, Vladimir Marinkovic, the current Vice President of the Assembly, Marija Obradovic, Vice President of the SNS, but also Aleksandar Martinovic, the head of the SNS parliamentary group, have great possibilities. If a coalition is formed with Spas Aleksandar Šapić, our source claims that it is not impossible for someone from that alliance to be the head of parliament, but that there is less chance of that happening. It is very likely that Maja Gojković, the current Speaker of the National Assembly, will continue to fulfill his duty in Nemanjina 11, in the field of culture and information.

Work experience

– It is a matter of the day when the final decision will be made. So far, of these candidates, Orlić and Marinković have the best chances, because both have a lot of experience in parliamentary work and would perform the job of president without any problem. However, Orlić has a slightly bigger advantage because he has been in the SNS from the beginning, unlike Marinković, who recently joined the ranks of the progressives, joining Rasim Ljajić from the SDPS, says our source.

Cesid executive director Bojan Klačar says for Kurir that there is no longer an urgent need to postpone the appointment of the leadership of the National Assembly, but also that there is no need to postpone the formation of the executive power.

– All the names mentioned have the possibility of occupying the position of President of the National Assembly. They are recognizable in public and are people who have a long and remarkable parliamentary status. I would say that Aleksandar Martinović is less likely because I am inclined to believe that the SNS is looking for a person who has no potential for conflict for that position. Thus, Orlić and Marinković are closer to that position, or Marija Obradović, if she does not assume a government post. At this moment, the leaders of the SNS are deciding on all that, and we cannot know from the outside – concludes Klačar.

Government in mid-October

Prime Minister Ana Brnabić confirmed that the formation of a government is safe in the coming days, adding that consultations with parties that have passed the census will be held previously.

– I believe that next week will be crucial for the formation of a new government. The president is here at home, there is no need for talks abroad. Next week, he will speak with potential partners, with all the parliamentary parties that have passed the census, and after that, in mid-October, a government will be formed, Brnabić said two days ago.

No. On August 3, the constitutive session of the National Assembly was held. On November 3 the deadline for the formation of the government expires

Vucic is under pressure, I don’t ask to be a minister

Defense Minister and Speaker of the Parliamentary Assembly Aleksandar Vulin says he understands that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is under a lot of pressure from his party and coalition partners and is therefore not seeking a ministerial post.

– Aleksandar Vučić has a lot of pressure. Fight to form a government. There is a lot of appetite. There are many people who want to get more than they deserve. The Socialist Movement is not seeking a ministerial position. I, Aleksandar Vulin, do not claim to be a government minister. I am satisfied if this policy continues. If staff need change, if people expect change and expect change, let them start with me. New times are approaching. It is a new policy. There are no people for all times – said Vulin.
