Fire and rescue units from Cajetina and Uzice last night evacuated six Russian citizens, including a baby, from a snow-covered road in the remote village of Stublo in Zlatibor, where they were trapped for hours.
All the action ended an hour after midnight, but firefighters removed the baby, another child, and two women to safety long before that.
It is likely that there would be no need to hire rescuers if the van from a Belgrade car rental agency, with which the Russians traveled to Montenegro and passed through Stublo to visit the Uvac monastery, had the prescribed winter equipment.
– At 9.15 pm, through an official of the Russian Embassy in Belgrade, we were informed that six Russian citizens were returning from the Uvac monastery and that the vehicle they were traveling to in Montenegro got stuck on the way through Stublo. They told us that they had been there for three or four hours and had so far tried unsuccessfully to get out on their own, Ivan Bacetic, commander of the Uzice fire and rescue battalion, told “Blic”.
Eight firefighters from Cajetina and Uzice were sent to the scene. Upon arrival, a team immediately took two women and two children and transported them to the Zlatibor gas station. Then, in order for the car to be pulled out of the snow, and there were about 20 centimeters on the road, a trafficker from the Cajetina Communal Public Company “Zlatibor” was sent to Stublo.
– We found out that the van rented from the car rental agency did not have winter tires or suitable winter equipment – says Bacetić.
He says the Russians were quite scared considering the environment they were in: night, mountains, unfamiliar terrain, desolation, snow.
When Kramer cleared the road, firefighters, with the help of a cable, pulled the stuck car with two men inside onto the flat part of the road.
– Then we transported them to the Cajetina gas station, where they strengthened, refueled and continued to Zabljak – adds Bacetic.
