Some Serbian citizens, especially those who have not yet used their holidays, are still waiting for their “biggest wish in 2020” to be fulfilled, and that the Greeks will reopen their borders for our tourists from September 15th!
According to the latest data from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), as of September 9, Serbia had 16.77 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants, which is the lowest in the region and three times less than it is an average for all of Europe!
– We have a situation that a good part of the countries, due to the fact that the number has fallen below 25, and continues to decrease, will open the borders, that is for sure and that can be expected – said Dr. Predrag Kon today and he emphasized “that these decisions are not made day by day, but several times a month.”
It should be remembered that due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation in Serbia, the Greek authorities prohibited the entry of our citizens at the beginning of July, and that decision was extended several times, and is valid until September 15.
However, in the coming days, it is due to be reconsidered, so it is not impossible for Greece to allow Serbian tourists to re-enter at the end of the summer, of course, with the mandatory PCR test. However, this decision will depend on many factors, some figures are in our favor and others are not.
For one thing, Serbia currently has significantly fewer people infected with COVID-19 than most European countries, including Greece itself, which, together with excellent Serbian-Greek relations, could influence the positive decision of the authorities there. Regardless of the fact that the European Union has not yet given “the green light” to passengers from Serbia.
On the other hand, we are not helped by the fact that the crown is bursting in Greece and that is why they really do not need thousands and thousands of tourists immediately rushing to the beaches in the northern part of the country, which is marked as the zone higher risk.
After all, in the days before, the Netherlands and Great Britain put certain parts of Greece, including Zakynthos, on the red list, with the recommendation not to travel there.
– Let them open on October 1, here I am in Greece. It will be like May or June, no problems, just take a bath this summer – say the Serbs from one of the many Facebook groups dedicated to Greece.
However, even if the borders are opened, Serbian tourists will have a potential problem in addition to mandatory PCR testing if mandatory self-isolation is introduced upon returning from vacation.
– It is not impossible to introduce mandatory self-isolation for citizens returning from abroad – said Dr. Kon.
