Whenever a government is formed in Serbia, Aleksandar Vulin is attacked more than any other member. Judging by the frequency of the latest provocations, the government has simply not been formed. Will you be a member of the new government, will you remain Minister of Defense?
Aleksandar Vučić and I are talking about it, everyone has their own views and expectations. Essentially, my stay or departure from the Government of Serbia, the Ministry of Defense and even politics, is of no importance at all.
And the important thing is that in the Ministry of Defense we have plowed a deep furrow from which it is impossible to get out without great shame. Politics can no longer be changed, the development and strengthening of the army is unstoppable. The strengthening of the army is taking place in several directions, which are not mutually exclusive.
What minister would now stop equipping himself in the national defense industry and start shutting it down? What minister would stop dressing the army in “Yumka” and ask for uniforms from Turkey? Which minister would drop the modernization programs of our armored, RV and PVO units? Which minister would regret the 63rd Parachute Brigade and 72nd Special Purpose Brigade and reduce them to battalion rank? What minister would leave military neutrality? What defense minister would dare to appear before the army and say that he is ashamed of General Lazarevic and that he thinks that he is a war criminal who has no place in the academy or in the parade, and that Pavkovic has no place in our doctrine nor in our textbooks? nor in military publications? What minister would abolish the revamped military vocational high school and instead of officers train “defense managers”, increase the number of dance classes relative to combat classes, and expel the military from the military gym? And that was the situation before changing the curriculum. Which minister would reverse the decision on scholarships for high school and college students, the army since gunpowder needed engineers and mechanics? What minister would stop employing engineers at the Military Technical Institute and doctors at the Military Medical Academy, more massively than ever since its founding, both in the institute and in the academy?
See a minister who will work in such a way that military pilots are given different and always lower salaries than pilots in the Ministry of the Interior, and stop investing in their equipment and training. And do you think the army would agree to once again survive the firing or forced retirement of the best, to remain silent while waiting for the next one to be brought to The Hague on charges drawn up at the Center for Humanitarian Law?
The army was reunited and stopped being ashamed of the fight it was waging. After centuries of persistent wars for freedom, the Serbian army became the only army in the world that did not dare to take pride in its fight. The Swiss army published more stories about William Body and shooting apples than we did about Košare and Pastrik, the German Bundeswehr made more efforts to explain the role of the Wehrmacht and justify it for everything it did during WWII than we did to tell our truth .
For a person to experience self-realization, he must have self-confidence, and there can be no self-confidence without self-esteem. The same goes for the army. To win, the military must believe in victory and must know that it belongs to the victor’s tradition. Let me see that minister who will remove the part of the National Defense Strategy that says that any threat to Serbs, wherever they live, is a threat to the security of Serbia, and that preserving the Republika Srpska is our task and military neutrality it is a fundamental commitment that will not change. Before Vučić, no one was allowed to say such a thing and he introduced it into the binding documents.
You are also known for being able to say everything …
Never a real politician of mine. Politicians often remain silent before forming a government and are careful not to say anything that might attract attention or provoke attacks. I never knew how to choose the time. And just because I said something in a storm doesn’t mean I was wrong. I also perceive our conversation as testamentary, as my way of saying at the end of a historical moment what I think and how I see what is in front of us. Perhaps it is better to say that this is a confession.
Where there is confession, there are sins. Will you be forgiven, can you redeem yourself?
I believe in the redemption of sin and I do not believe in the redemption of sins.
When you already mention indulgence (redemption of sins, permitted in the Catholic Church), have you been forgiven for the sin of defying the sanctity of Blessed Lodgings Stepinac?
If there is a place in heaven for the vicar of the Ustasha army, Mantenimientozije Stepinac, then there can be no place for the murdered children of Jasenovac.
It is not very appropriate to quote myself, but that phrase from my speech at the commemoration in Jadovno, about the pit of the tents, caused noise and anger in Croatia, which does not stop even today. To get to the commemoration site, I had to pass a line of Ustash protesting against the commemoration of the suffering of Serbs, Jews and Roma. In Croatia, as far as the NDH is concerned, they have two schools; one, which says the wells are Serbian propaganda and fabrication, and the other, which teaches that the wells existed but were not full enough, the third not.
When I went through that veteran, human waste, I decided to talk about Stepinac. After my speech, the Croatian Minister of Culture was so confused that he quoted me several times in his speech. The truth about Stepinac caused so much shit and noise in the Croatian media that the Vatican had to form a joint commission of the Catholic Church and the Serbian Orthodox Church. In the end, the “Church of the Croats” was left without the blessing of the Holy Father for the first time and did not receive a saint.
If he had kept silent then and had not drawn attention to the evil that was brewing, Stepinac would have become a saint by receiving the blessing. In Croatia, they don’t like it when Serbs tell them the truth, especially when they do it on their soil. That is why I was banned from entering Croatia, permanently, not temporarily. They were not angry because he wanted to go to Jasenovac, but because he intended to break his old habit of having a Serb who came to Jasenovac stay there, they were angry not because I wanted to come but because I did not want to stay. .
To be continue …
