The case of a five-year-old girl from Vratarnica, near Zajecar, who was put up for adoption by a foster family, upset the public in Serbia.

Minister Zoran Djordjevic tells Kurir Television that the court decision deprived parents of their parental rights and that he hopes to raise the issue of criminal responsibility for all those who threaten employees of the Zajecar Center for Social Work.

A five-year-old girl from Vraternica spent four years in a foster family in Veliki Izvor, while her mother lives in a family accommodation in another village.

Father Ljubiša Stefanović was deprived of his parental rights by a court decision in February, so the girl was given up for adoption.

According to him, the reason for the deprivation of parental authority is poverty, and his statement unleashed a flood of comments on social networks.

For days now, the networks spread information accusing the Zajecar Social Work Center and the competent Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs.

On that occasion Minister Zoran Djordjevic also spoke.

– This is a judicial decision, it has nothing to do with the Ministry or with me as a minister, the minister was clear.

The Center for Social Work estimated that the problem is not poverty, but is of another nature, which is why they placed the child in one family and the mother in another.
