Whoever had covid is healthy to receive the flu vaccine

Some citizens who have submitted to the crown doubt whether they should get vaccinated against the seasonal flu now, because they fear becoming ill due to already weakened immunity and frequent damage to the lungs or other organs. Experts say of Kurir that kovid patients are the first to need flu immunization, but they must be completely healthy by then!

Epidemiologist and crisis staff member prof. Dr. Branislav Tiodorović says for Kurir that those who have contracted the coronavirus should get vaccinated against the seasonal flu, but only on the condition that they are completely healthy.

– All laboratory tests should be within normal limits and should no longer have the slightest indication of the clinical picture of Covid 19. Due to the lung injury, which often remains, a pulmonologist should also be consulted. Patients should not have shortness of breath, tire quickly, and feel weak if they want to get the flu shot. In a word, they should be completely fit, which would be said today – points out Tiodorović and points out that it is certainly good to vaccinate as many people as possible against flu.

Prof. Tiodorovic does not expect the spread of the flu in Serbia to start anytime soon.

– Anti-epidemic measures in the case of corona, especially the use of masks, give results with the flu. There are fewer respiratory infections this time of year than in previous years. And that is exactly why I don’t expect the flu to start in Serbia before January or February. And I don’t expect a strong collision between the crown and the seasonal flu, says Tidorović.

Dr. Tatjana Radosavljević, a pulmonologist, explains to Kurir that the organism through which the crown passed is more sensitive to flu and other infections precisely because of reduced immunity.

– Precisely for this reason, people who have had kovid need to be vaccinated against seasonal flu, as do women with chronic diseases or pregnant women, and I would advise them to get vaccinated among the first, because it is very important to protect themselves now from another virus. The current vaccine is quadrivalent, which means that scientists have taken four strains of flu for which immunity will be created through so-called memory cells. The vaccine does not contain live strains of the flu, and if there is a mutation that is not in that vaccine, and even if you do contract it, you will have a very mild form of the flu, says Dr. Radosavljevic and remember that masks not only protect against the corona but also against the flu virus. it is transmitted in exactly the same way as other respiratory infections, making it yet another extremely effective type of protection for everyone.

Vaccination as soon as possible

Epidemiologist Dr. Radmilo Petrović tells Kurir that those who passed the crown should get vaccinated against seasonal flu as soon as possible:

– The potentially weakened immune system of patients who have had a corona will pass, but they should receive the flu vaccine as soon as possible so that they do not contract the virus and present possible complications, due to the already weaker immune response of the body. Additionally, even those who have survived COVID-19 should get vaccinated against corona, when the vaccine is finally available. I call on everyone to wear masks too, because they protect from the flu perhaps even better than from the corona.
