The director of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Serbia, Marjan Ivanusa, stated that the situation with the coronavirus epidemic in Serbia is “relatively good”, but that caution and respect are needed for measures such as carrying a mask and keep your distance.

Ivanuša told Prva TV that it turned out to be relatively simple to prevent infection, for which it is enough to adhere to the recommended measures.

He also said he expects the first coronavirus vaccines to be available by the end of this year, adding that around 200 coronavirus vaccines are currently in the works, nine of which are in the final stages of testing.

When asked which vaccine he can say is the best, Ivanuša replied that “the WHO does not authorize the use of certain vaccines”, but that it is within the purview of national regulatory agencies.

“I would not give preference to any manufacturer. We should wait for the last phase of the clinical trial to make sure that the vaccine is safe. It is important that each phase is done correctly and that there is an institution to monitor it,” Ivanusa said.
