The World Health Organization has received no evidence or data from the United States government to support claims by United States President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that the coronavirus was created in a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan, said WHO director of emergency situations Michael Ryan.

“From our perspective, this is still speculation,” Ryan told reporters in Geneva.

He reiterated that the evidence available to the UN health agency and the advice it received indicate the natural origin of the coronavirus.

Pompeo and Trump claim to have seen evidence that the coronavirus originated in the laboratory of the Virology Institute in Wuhan.

“If that data and evidence is available, then it is up to the US government to decide whether and when to share it, but it is difficult for WHO to act in an information vacuum on that particular issue,” Ryan said.

He added that the WHO, as, as it said, any organization that works on the basis of the evidence, wants to obtain any information that indicates the origin of the virus, reports AP.
