“While my visor is fogged up and my pants are drenched with sweat, I’m trying to convince choking people to read your new text, Slavica, that this is just a conspiracy and the virus doesn’t exist. But Slavica isn’t listening to me. I’m dying as naive as they came. ” These are the words that the Nis doctor, Dejan Hristov, asked everyone who does not believe in a pandemic, does not want to wear masks and does not respect epidemic measures.
– “Slavica” is a paradigm, I imagine her as a woman who could not express herself in life and now writes comments on Facebook, they like it, sherry. Suddenly she becomes an expert by watching a video on YouTube and knows all about vaccines and diseases, tells how they contaminate us with airplanes – Hristov explains for “RTS” and adds that there are too many “Slavica” male and female.
– Slavica is very dangerous, malicious, writes incorrect comments, spreads conspiracy theories, and people are subject, now especially because there is a general mistrust in the system, in the health system, in the doctors in all of us, and we will only feel problems when the time has come to say – ok, vaccination starts tomorrow – estimates Hristov.
He adds that all this is happening while the epidemiological situation in the country is very difficult and while doctors are fighting with superhuman strength to stay on their feet for as long as possible and help everyone who needs that help.
– Everywhere, even in Nis, the epidemiological situation is very difficult, it is tough, there are many more patients than in the first wave we had in March and April. It really is a state of war, I mean that without wanting to sound dramatic. When you enter you do not know what awaits you, there are many difficult patients, those who are not only with pneumonia but some are immobile, some are from a nursing home, patients who are trapped in the street unconscious which complicates the work even more because we really are few inside. for such a large number of difficult patients and I think this is the case everywhere, not just in our country – says Hristov.
Doctors are tired and many are infected
He adds that the number of infected doctors is increasing and that they are tired of hard work.
– You can’t let everyone in, a few of us enter and we have to rest, we have hard shifts. More and more doctors are infected, so it will surely be a problem at some point. We’ll see how we deal with that – says Hristov.
Speaking of the clinical picture of the patients, he affirms that it is the same as in March and April, but, as he says, the number of patients is much higher.
– During the spring, we had patients with a milder clinical picture and we were able to hospitalize them all because there were a relatively small number of infected people. Now we have a lot of infected people and we have to do triage, to receive the heavier patients while the lighter patients go home for treatment, says Hristov.
Explain that it is not unusual for a pneumonia patient to be referred for home treatment.
– It’s called community-acquired pneumonia. If the patient is stable, the viral infection in question can be treated at home until complications occur. We accept more difficult patients and they are treated in our country and in all covid hospitals in the country – explains Hristov.
“I miss the team psychiatrist”
He adds that during work, they come across situations that they didn’t learn from during school.
– Very often we have had these kinds of situations to tell me – I miss a psychiatrist on the team who will really talk to people because precious time is wasted to calm down, to explain to them that he cannot leave the hospital, that he must be there until he is negative. Now imagine a patient who has been lying down for 20 days or more and his test is positive three times and I can’t let him go home, and everyone else is gone. Then we have hunger strikes and all kinds of situations that we don’t find out about during school – he explains.
As he says, they are still trying to calm patients down and explain that they need to stay in the hospital.
– We try to make them laugh, we draw hearts on spacesuits to make them interesting, we try to have words of comfort, to try to help them as much as we can during that period while we are inside – Hristov adds.
It calls on citizens to stay home during the holidays.
“If someone is really normal to go to the New Year’s celebration, then I don’t know what to talk about next,” Hristov said.
