It has been 20 years since October 5, the day Serbia stood up and said “no” to the Slobodan Milosevic regime.

There is no doubt that the heroes of these changes are the citizens themselves, but there were some of the then leaders of DOS on the streets. In the years that followed, there was a story that Velimir Ilić, the leader of New Serbia, brought the people from Čačak to Belgrade and that, by the way, they broke (some say more about them) the police cordon.

Some of the politicians followed the protesters and asked the police to side with the people, while Vojislav Kostunica appeared among the people just before the expected speech. Since then, Serbia has gone to the polls many times, governments have fallen and changed, and this is where some of the leaders of those changes stand today.

On October 5, 2000, he found the head of diplomacy and current chairman of the Socialist Party of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, in the position of party spokesperson and chairman of the Municipal Board.

– On October 5 I worked like every day. At that time, I was the SPS City Board President and my office was at Studentski trg. By the way, it was tremendously turbulent in those days, I warned the people of the party leadership and the state that the situation was serious, they assured me that everything would be fine. At that time, I was not a high-ranking official, I only had party functions and could not influence decision-making – states by Kurir Dačić and adds: – We were all at work, at a time when the situation was It complicated, I ordered the employees to leave the building and they go home. That ‘s what I did.

When asked if he was afraid that someone might attack him on the street, he answered no. – Subsequently, the protesters broke into the building, demolished it, set fire and stole everything, including toilets and civilians. They didn’t break into the Main Board building because they didn’t even know where it was, so it was at the Jubmes Bank building. The next day, I returned to the building, it was no longer possible to work there, so I went to the building of the Municipal Board in Voždovac and worked from there in the following months – says the head of the Socialists.
